The Leadbeater's Cockatoo a Unique Bird
Aside from the flamingo, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more beautiful bird. This bird is also called the Major Mitchell Cockatoo or the Pink Cockatoo, and is native to Australia. It has the most beautiful coloring of white and salmon pink. My experience of seeing the bird was on a visit to the Denver Zoo. My two year old granddaughter was completely enthralled by the two Leadbeater’s Cockatoos that were on display there.
I was disappointed that there was no information about the birds on the Denver Zoo website. I did, however, find where the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago h... Read More: The Leadbeater's Cockatoo a Unique Bird

A Look at the Denver Zoo
I love going to the Denver Zoo. I don't get to go often, but when I do I usually take pictures of the animals that I see. Just wanted to share a few of the pictures that I have taken in a slideshow format. Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Rosie, the Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula
This is a Big Spider
My first and only experience with a tarantula was at the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, Colorado. This particular creature is one of the crawl-a-see-em insects that you can get up close and personal with. When I first met Rosie, a Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula, she was crawling around on her handlers hand. I was quite intrigued with her and at first I only wanted to photograph and ask questions about her. I discovered .... From: Rosie, the Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula

Yorkie Health Tip: Taking Care of Your Yorkshire Terrier's Ears
A Yorkshire Terrier owner needs to pay close attention to the Yorkie's ears. Because of the Yorkie's long hair and the growth of hair inside the ear, Yorkies tend to get ear infections and ear mites. You need to inspect your Yorkies ears at least once a week. Following is a list of dos and don'ts for Yorkshire Terrier ear care.
Do remove hair from the inside of a Yorkie's ears
If you have your Yorkie regularly groomed, the groomer can do a good job of removing the hair inside the ear. In between professional grooming you can remove any accumulated hair by plucking it out of the ear by grabbing the hair with your fingers and giving a quick tug. If your Yorkie is very accommodating, you can...From: Yorkie Health Tip: Taking Care of Your Yorkshire Terrier's Ears

The Lionfish a Unique Fish for Your Salt Water Aquarium
Not only is the lionfish unique, but it’s also venomous. Years ago I managed a pet store. We had salt water tanks and the lionfish is a salt water fish. We always had several of these fish in our tanks. People were fascinated with them because they looked so unusual.
The Lion Fish has a lot of personality, but you want to stay away from their spines as this is where you can get stung. These fish live naturally in regions such as Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, and the Pitcairn Islands. This is a favorite fish of salt water enthusiasts. Their sting is...From: The Lionfish a Unique Fish for Your Salt Water Aquarium

The Yorkshire Terrier Makes a Terrific Pet
I must say that I am partial to the Yorkshire Terrier as I own a beautiful little Yorkie named Bea. They are extremely loveable and have a lot of good qualities.
The Yorkshire terrier is a small dog and this makes them pretty versatile as far as the size of living space required. They are happy, loving and energetic with an extreme loyalty to their families. You couldn’t ask for a sweeter temperament and if they aren’t too little they make good pets around children.
Some Yorkies can be on the small side (sometimes only about 3 to 5 pounds at maturity), this size of dog wo... From: The Yorkshire Terrier Makes a Terrific Pet

Yorkie Health Tip: Care of the Yorkshire Terrier's Teeth
If you have this small breed dog, it's very important to be watchful of their teeth. Yorkies tend to get gum disease and they also develop plaque on their teeth quite easily.
In order for Yorkies to stay healthy you will need to keep a close watch on their dental health. If you don't attend to this, your Yorkie could develop other health problems such as tooth loss, and other serious...From: Yorkie Health Tip: Care of the Yorkshire Terrier's Teeth

Are Elevated Pet Bowls Beneficial for Your Dog?
You've probably seen these pet bowls in pet stores and in pet supply catalogs. I thought they looked like a good idea, but wanted to know if they were really beneficial for my pet, or was this just a marketing ploy.
Dr. Jon of PetPlace.comsaid, "Elevated feeders can be beneficial for dogs with back or neck problems, however they have been associated with an increased risk of bloat. I have never found.....From: Are Elevated Pet Bowls Beneficial for Your Dog?

What to Feed Your Yorkshire Terrier
Yorkshire terriers can be picky eaters. In order for them to be healthy you want to make sure that your little Yorkie eats quality food. I talked to my veterinarian about what a good food was to feed my puppy. I decided to feed her Hills Science Diet.
Once you have determined what you want to feed your Yorkie, you will need to find the right combination of food. Bea, my Yorkie, doesn’t eat plain dry dog food very readily. I feed her a combination of dry and canned Science Diet. I purchase the dry lamb and rice for small breed dogs. I also combine canned food. She really likes th... Treating Your Dog's Razor Burn After Grooming
Warning:You can treat this on your own, but be observant. If any part of the area begins to swell or seep, this will indicate an infection. Your vet will be able to prescribe antibiotics to treat your pet.
I occasionally take my little Yorkie, Bea, in for a trim. We live in the South and the summers are very warm. I decided to have Bea cut shorter than normal so that she would be more comfortable in the heat. Bea went....From: Treating Your Dog's Razor Burn After Grooming

A First Time Dog Owner Needs to Know, is My Dog Bad or Bored?
I have had dogs and pets most of my life. I usually give my dog a lot of attention. This is one reason why I don't have behavioral problems with my dog.
It usually can't be helped when we have to leave our beloved dog home alone for periods of time on a daily basis. Have you ever had a dog that was completely bad when left alone? There are many bad behaviors that....

Your Dog May Exhibit Bad Behavior When Bored
I have a Yorkshire terrier, and she gets a lot of attention. Even though she gets all of this attention my dog gets bored.
What happens when my dog gets bored? She begins to whine. Other dogs my exhibit bored behavior in different ways. Dogs might begin to chew on your shoes, or other things in your home. Normally a bored dog will be destructive.
I had one little dog that would tear up the whole house. He would start with the garbage can, proceed to the shoes, and then attack other things.
The dogs name was Fred. One time we came home from work and found poor Fred in a dire situation... From: Your Dog May Exhibit Bad Behavior When Bored
